What is a warm roof?

A warm roof has its insulation fixed on top of the roof rafters, a water proof covering is then applied on top of the insulation. The roof air gap does not need to be ventilated, the insulation is closest to the cold air outside providing a warm barrier between the warm air inside and the cold air outside.
